For fans of the first Control game hoping to return to Jesse Faden’s story, Remedy Entertainment has made it clear: she won’t be playable in the sequel.

The upcoming title, Control RESONANT, centers on her twin brother Dylan, who has spent most of his life under the Federal Bureau of Control (FBC). While Jesse remains a key part of the narrative—having mysteriously disappeared at the game’s start—players will step into Dylan’s shoes as he battles an extradimensional entity threatening Manhattan.

This shift doesn’t mean Jesse is irrelevant. She plays a crucial role in the story, having taken charge of the FBC after the events of the first game. Her absence from gameplay, however, marks a deliberate choice by Remedy to focus on Dylan’s perspective, offering a fresh take on the franchise.

Combat in Control RESONANT is described as fast-paced and melee-focused, akin to titles like Devil May Cry or Bayonetta, with a guaranteed minimum of 60 frames per second across all platforms. The game also introduces real-time dialogue interactions inspired by Campo Santo’s Firewatch, where players choose responses that unfold dynamically without branching narratives.

Supporting Dylan is Zoe De Vera, voiced by Frankie Kevich, who serves as his handler, guiding him through missions with unobtrusive radio chatter. The dialogue system allows for player agency but avoids deeper RPG-like consequences, ensuring the experience remains focused on action and narrative.

A reality check: while Remedy has confirmed Jesse’s non-playable status, there’s always a chance of surprises—past games have subverted expectations with late reveals. For now, though, buyers should prepare for a story centered on Dylan, with Jesse playing a behind-the-scenes role in the FBC.

Control RESONANT is set to launch this year on PC (Windows and macOS), PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series S|X, continuing Remedy’s tradition of blending narrative depth with high-octane gameplay.
