The Desert in Mewgenics isn’t just a stage—it’s a test of endurance. The Heat Wave debuff doesn’t just slow healing; it shuts off automatic recovery entirely after combat, leaving players vulnerable in a game where stamina management is already razor-thin. The good news? There are concrete ways to counter it—but they require strategy, not just brute-force tactics.
Heat Wave can only be removed by water. No spells, no potions, no shortcuts. The debuff lingers until a cat stands in a puddle or drinks from a bottle. That’s it. No exceptions.
Three Ways to Cool Down
The Desert throws obstacles at every turn, but players have three reliable methods to reset the debuff
- Break cacti to create water tiles. The short, stubby cacti scattered across arenas can be shattered (at a cost to your own health) to leave behind puddles. Standing in one instantly removes Heat Wave.
- Buy water bottles from merchants marked with a droplet icon. Prices range from 1 coin for an empty bottle to 5 coins for a full one with two uses. Refill them by standing in any water tile—just don’t toss them at enemies.
- Use items like the Water Feeder or carry over bottles from previous runs. These tools bypass the need for in-game purchases or risky cactus-breaking.
Pro tip: If your class has an ability like Number One—which can summon water without damaging yourself—prioritize buying empty bottles. Refill them mid-run and save coins for other upgrades.
Rainy Day weather is the wild card. If the game triggers it, Heat Wave vanishes entirely, but don’t bank on it. Plan for the worst.
The Desert isn’t just a challenge—it’s a lesson in adaptation. Heat Wave forces players to think differently about resource management, turning what could be a death trap into a manageable obstacle with the right preparation.
