Hytale’s survival mechanics reward persistence, but few resources are as elusive—or as frustrating—as voidhearts. These rare drops don’t follow the usual patterns of mob loot; instead, they hinge on chance and the right enemy encounters. Unlike standard materials that can be mined or gathered with relative ease, voidhearts require a blend of preparation, environmental awareness, and relentless combat.
Players must navigate Hytale’s nighttime biomes—particularly the Howling Sands desert or Whisperfrost Frontiers snowfields—to increase their chances. These areas offer open terrain, making it easier to spot Voidspawn enemies, which are the primary source of voidhearts. However, even then, success is not guaranteed; drop rates hover around 10%, with humanoid Void Spawns yielding the highest frequency compared to other variants.
Effective combat is key. The hand crossbow emerges as a top-tier weapon for this task, allowing players to burst down multiple enemies without risking melee engagements. Its ability to store and fire multiple arrows rapidly can turn the tide against aggressive Voidspawn, especially when facing larger threats like Void Eyes or Spectres.
An alternative method exists for those willing to trade simplicity for difficulty: constructing an Ancient Gateway at an Arcanist’s Workbench. When paired with a Dread Wade fragment, this structure teleports players to a swampy arena teeming with Voidspawn. While the setup guarantees encounters, the environment is more hostile, demanding higher-tier gear and precise navigation to avoid being overwhelmed.
Despite their rarity, voidhearts serve a critical function in progression. Three are required to upgrade the Armorer’s Workbench to tier three, unlocking access to adamantite and mithril armor—though mithril remains unavailable in-game for now. This limitation underscores the material’s current niche utility, as players cannot yet craft the advanced gear that would justify its labor-intensive acquisition.
For now, voidhearts remain a test of endurance rather than necessity. Players must weigh the effort against the immediate rewards, balancing risk and reward in Hytale’s ever-evolving survival ecosystem.
