For years, players of Hitman: World of Assassination have faced a frustrating barrier—progress made on one platform was not recognized on another. Whether you were a seasoned assassin on PC or just starting your journey on Switch, your achievements and level would remain isolated, forcing a restart every time you switched devices.
That era is now ending. IOI has announced that cross-progression will be implemented for Hitman: World of Assassination beginning February 3, 2026. This feature, long desired by the development team, will allow players to carry their experience, level, challenges, and unlocks with them, regardless of where they play.
The decision to introduce cross-progression at this time is likely influenced by the upcoming release of the game's co-op mode, Stone and Knight. The technical groundwork required for supporting multiplayer experiences may have naturally extended to enabling seamless progression across platforms, streamlining the player experience without unnecessary disruption.
When cross-progression goes live, players will be able to sync their experience, player level, challenges completed, location mastery, unlocks, inventory, achievements or trophies, freelancer mode progression, and campaign story progress. However, it is important to note that game and DLC licenses will not transfer between platforms, meaning players may need to repurchase content if they wish to access it on a new device.
One notable change accompanying this update is the discontinuation of the ability to import progress from Hitman 2 into Hitman: World of Assassination after February 3. This decision was made to streamline the cross-progression process using IOI accounts, ensuring a more cohesive experience for players moving forward.
While some players may find this change inconvenient, it is expected that the majority will benefit significantly from the enhanced continuity and flexibility offered by cross-progression. The feature aims to create a more unified and engaging gaming experience, allowing players to seamlessly transition between platforms without losing their hard-earned progress.
