Behaviour Interactive’s Dead by Daylight has once again stepped into the spotlight with a high-profile crossover, this time teaming up with Netflix’s Stranger Things. The latest expansion, titled Stranger Things: Chapter 2, introduces three new playable characters—Eleven, Dustin, and Vecna—to the game, building on the success of its 2019 collaboration that first added Steve and Nancy.

The update marks a notable shift in Dead by Daylight’s approach to crossovers. While previous collaborations with franchises like The Witcher and Assassin’s Creed Shadows leaned into darker, more niche themes, this partnership leans into the cultural phenomenon of Stranger Things, blending its nostalgic 80s aesthetic with the game’s signature survival horror mechanics. Vecna, the show’s iconic antagonist, takes center stage as a new killer, while Eleven and Dustin join the survivor roster with unique abilities that redefine how players approach evasion and strategy.

Vecna’s presence in Dead by Daylight is particularly striking. Unlike traditional killers, he wields dimension-manipulating powers, allowing him to traverse the Upside Down undetected before bursting back into reality to strike survivors. His arsenal includes fleshy vines that lash out unpredictably, adding a layer of environmental threat that forces players to adapt quickly. On the survivor side, Eleven’s extrasensory perception lets her detect auras from a distance after crouching, while Dustin can booby-trap windows—a skill that plays into his character’s resourcefulness in the show.

Beyond gameplay mechanics, the update introduces two legendary outfits: one for Dustin, modeled after Eddie Munson, and another for Nancy, themed around Steve’s best friend Robin Buckley. While Eleven doesn’t receive a dedicated outfit in this chapter, Steve can now don Jonathan Byres’ attire from the first collaboration.

This isn’t Dead by Daylight’s first foray into licensed content, but it stands out for its broad appeal. The game has previously experimented with crossovers that cater to more niche audiences, such as The Witcher and Five Nights at Freddy’s. However, the choice of Stranger Things signals a shift toward mainstream recognition, tapping into a fanbase that spans generations. The update is part of a larger effort by Behaviour Interactive to address longstanding player concerns, including quality-of-life improvements and new game modes, ahead of its 10th anniversary in 2026.

The expansion is currently available in the public test build and will officially launch on January 27. For fans of Stranger Things or Dead by Daylight, this collaboration offers a fresh twist on survival horror, blending familiar characters with innovative gameplay mechanics that push the boundaries of what’s possible in multiplayer slashers.
