Bungie’s Marathon, a game that has already amassed nearly 250,000 copies sold on Steam since its launch, is receiving its first major update this week. The changes focus on addressing key player frustrations while maintaining the game’s intended design ethos.

The most immediate change will be an expansion of the objective visibility radius from 10 meters to 20 meters. Currently, players must be within 10 meters of a contract objective to see it on their screen, leading to unnecessary backtracking and exploration time. The update doubles this range while ensuring that the game still encourages thorough map traversal rather than making objectives too easily spotted.

Additional adjustments include an increase in the number of med cabinets and munitions crates available on the Perimeter map, along with a boost to base ammo quantities in sponsored kits from MIDA, CyberAcme, and Arachne. These tweaks aim to enhance player survival and resource management without disrupting the game’s balance.

Bungie Announces First Major Update for Marathon, Addressing Player Feedback and Performance

Player feedback has also influenced Bungie’s approach to microtransactions. While no major overhaul is arriving in this update, the company has confirmed that changes are coming soon to improve perceived value for players who purchase cosmetics or currency bundles. The $10 LUX bundle, for example, will now grant 20 more LUX (the premium in-game currency) than before, and existing buyers will receive a one-time bonus of 20 LUX upon the update’s implementation.

Bungie has emphasized that these adjustments are part of a broader effort to ensure players feel they are getting fair value for their purchases. The game continues to perform well on Steam, maintaining a ‘Very Positive’ rating despite not yet reaching 100,000 concurrent players at its peak. With this update serving as a foundation for future refinements, the team is likely to prioritize sustained responsiveness to player concerns.

The update marks a step toward addressing long-standing criticisms while preserving the game’s core mechanics. Whether additional changes will be introduced in subsequent patches remains uncertain, but Bungie’s proactive approach suggests a commitment to iterative improvements based on community input.
