Audeze Elevates the Maxwell 2 Wireless Gaming Headset
The Audeze Maxwell 2 Wireless Gaming Headset is making its mark with a host of subtle but significant updates. Built around Audeze’s signature 90mm planar magnetic drivers, this latest iteration represents a refined experience for discerning gamers and audiophiles.
Design Enhancements – Comfort and Ergonomics
The most immediately noticeable changes focus on the headset's comfort and ergonomics. The earcups are now magnetically attached, offering easier removal and replacement while maintaining a secure fit. Internal markings have been clarified for improved visual orientation, and the earcup design has undergone a slight redesign for enhanced aesthetics.
The headband itself is wider than its predecessor, incorporating perforations to promote airflow and mitigate heat buildup during extended gaming sessions. Attachment points have also been meticulously refined for a more secure and comfortable fit. Notably, the power button has been strategically positioned on the left earcup, moving it away from the center of the earcups – a welcome change for many users.
Connectivity & Audio Codecs
The Maxwell 2 maintains compatibility with a comprehensive suite of audio codecs. Users can expect support for Auracast, LC3, LC3plus, LDAC, AAC, and SBC. Multipoint pairing is also included, allowing simultaneous connection to multiple devices – a practical feature for gamers transitioning between consoles and PCs.
Battery Performance & Charging
Despite the refinements, the battery capacity remains at 1800 mAh, delivering an estimated 80 hours of wireless playback. The charging time stays consistent at approximately two hours for a full charge. While the added weight – now 70 grams heavier – is a consideration for long gaming sessions, Audeze has prioritized audio quality and comfort.
Additional Features & Customization
Beyond the core improvements, the Maxwell 2 includes a dedicated mobile application offering customization options. Users can personalize their experience with ‘skins’ designed to modify the headset's appearance. The microphone, carried over from the original Maxwell model, incorporates AI noise reduction technology for clearer communication.
Pricing and Availability
The PlayStation version of the Maxwell 2 is priced starting at $329, while the Xbox variant launches at $349. Both versions are currently available for order. A slight price increase of approximately $20-$30 has been implemented across SKU variations.
