Determining accountability becomes blurred: if an AI acts on behalf of a human but makes a mistake, who is responsible? Some enterprises are already implementing strict guardrails to limit agent permissions, ensuring that AI only accesses sanctioned knowledge sources without executing critical system commands. Yet, as demand for AI integration surges, maintaining these controls has become increasingly difficult.
Looking ahead, the industry must develop new methods for securing agent interactions—particularly as MCP and other protocols enable auto-discovery of tools. Enterprises may eventually trust agents more than humans for certain tasks, but widespread adoption hinges on overcoming current fears of failure. Until then, organizations are left with interim measures: fine-grained access controls, declarative API calls, and human oversight to validate agent actions before granting broader permissions.
