Every year, Overwatch introduces a new weapon variant that serves as the competitive season’s centerpiece. This time, it’s Crimson Wolf, a bold Talon-inspired camo that joins the ranks alongside Golden, Jade, and last year’s Galactic. Unlike past variants, Crimson Wolf isn’t just a cosmetic—it’s a seasonal challenge, requiring players to grind through matches to earn the red currency that unlocks it.
For veterans, the process may feel familiar. For newcomers, it’s a maze of currencies, modes, and deadlines. The good news? There’s a clear path to earning Crimson Wolf—if you know where to look.
Crimson Wolf costs 3,000 Competitive Points per character, a red currency earned exclusively through Competitive and Stadium modes. Wins grant 10 points, draws 5, and Stadium victories reward 20. Unlike Legacy Competitive Points (the white currency tied to past variants), these reset annually with the new season. That means even top players must start from zero when The Reign of Talon begins.
How to Track Your Progress
Your Competitive Points balance is visible in the weapon variants menu, tucked in the top-right corner. The counter updates dynamically as you play, and filling the progression bar—even without wins—accelerates your earnings. The system is designed to reward consistent play, not just high-level performance.
One common misstep? Confusing Crimson Wolf with Doomfist’s exclusive Crimson Wolf skin. The latter unlocks automatically for players who reach Diamond rank between Season 1 and Season 3, regardless of currency. The weapon variant, however, demands active participation in ranked play.
A Limited-Time Opportunity
Crimson Wolf won’t last forever. 2027, it will transition into the Legacy rewards system, joining Golden, Jade, and Galactic as a permanent—but no longer earnable—option. Until then, the variant remains the sole way to access the Talon-themed camo for all characters.
For those who missed out on past variants, this year’s reset is a clean slate. Whether you’re a casual player or a competitive climber, the key to Crimson Wolf lies in the same place: the ranked ladder. The question isn’t whether you can earn it—it’s how quickly.
