Developers have released a long-overdue update for Kingdom Come: Deliverance, the 2018 medieval RPG that remains a cult favorite. Version 1.9.7 arrives three years after the last patch, delivering a mix of stability improvements and a new cosmetic reward—a decorative horse covering known as a caparison—that players can unlock by linking their game to a Deep Silver Account.
A caparison, traditionally used to adorn and protect horses in battle or ceremonial settings, now serves as a visual upgrade for players’ steeds in-game. The reward automatically appears in the stash after completing the prologue, provided players have enabled Deep Silver Account integration—a new feature introduced with this update.
The bulk of the patch focuses on resolving persistent issues that could disrupt gameplay. These include multiple instances of infinite loading screens during key quests, such as the Run!* mission and the Siege quest’s trebuchet cinematic. The latter had previously caused rare but severe save corruption in some cases, forcing players to reset progress. Other fixes target crashes tied to physics synchronization, language switching, and interactions with the game’s vegetation and model systems.
Gameplay refinements address long-standing frustrations, such as blocked controls during dice games with NPC Stephan and unresolved achievement conditions for Casanova and Full House Sinner. UI improvements correct missing or placeholder text, broken subtitles in the final cinematic, and font display issues when toggling between Japanese and other languages.
For console players, the update includes next-gen optimizations for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, unlocking stable 60 FPS performance and enhanced visual quality. Despite the release of Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 in 2025—a title that has since sold over 5 million copies—the original remains actively played, with Steam alone reporting thousands of concurrent users.
Key fixes and additions
- New caparison horse armor (unlocked via Deep Silver Account)
- Resolved infinite loading screens in critical quests (Run!, Siege*)
- Fixed physics deadlocks and crashes during language changes
- Corrected missing UI text and subtitle errors
